Don’t Take Photograph!
A friend and colleague was recently prevented from taking photographs at Victoria Park, in the heart of Colombo, by a policeman who told him his camera was “too big”, and that he would have to get special permission from the Municipal Council which I heard, from another friend, charges an exorbitant amount. Victoria Park is a public space which exists for the enjoyment of the population of Colombo, and is maintained by public funds. In this picture, a security guard at the entrance to the Samangodu Sri Kathiraveluyutha Swami Hindu Kovil in Colombo’s Pettah district, couldn’t stop me taking pictures on the street, but wouldn’t allow me to take any inside the temple. Canon EOS 600D and EF 50mm f/1.8 lens at 1/125, f/1.8, and ISO 100.
