On the Ferry Home
Worshippers from the Naagapoosani Amman Kovil on Nainativu Island take a ferry to Kurikadduwan, the first leg of their journey back to their homes on the Jaffna Peninsula in northern Sri Lanka. During the civil war that ended in 2009, such journeys would have been fraught with danger as gun boats of the Sea Tigers fought the Sri Lanka Navy for possession of the islands that dot the Palk Straits east of Jaffna. Thousands of Tamils fled their homes for safety in India and the west during the 30-year war, many never to return to the land they love and once went to war over. Canon EOS 600D and EF-S 18-200mm lens at 18mm, 1/20, f/3.5, ISO 100, and Hoya polarizing filter.
