  1. “Racism is butchery where the butcher satisfies us using our own flesh”

This is Janaka Illangarathne’s work titled “Jaathi Mas” installation art exhibited at the anti-racist event “No More July”, held on this Wednesday 23rd July 2014.

Main idea of this was, from generations flip-side humans are tending to eat animal flesh that makes them round the bend over it. As such, racism is also turning out to be a butcher shop that people cannot get rid of. At this Racists’ Butchery, the butcher will attain his intentions by dressing our own flesh and selling them back to us. As a result of this, meat that was named as Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim will be served equally to all bargain hunters.

  2. Jaathi Mas

From generations back humans are tending to eat animal flesh that makes them round the bend over it. As such, racism is also turning out to be a butcher shop that people cannot get rid of.

At this Racists’ Butchery, the butcher will attain his intentions by dressing our own flesh and selling them back to us. Therefore, he gets the advantage by satisfying us, using our own flesh.

As a result of this, meat that was named as Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim will be served equally to all bargain hunters. Thus this shows that people who consume this meat are destroying the great merciful seed of their own.

This was on display at “No More July” event held on 23rd July 2014, commemorating the black July of 1983 while opposing violence created in recent times. It was organized by a set of different social activists, academics and artists who believe in building a voice against discrimination and violence.

  3. while i accept your analogy between racism and the beef stall, i don’t agree that eating meat has driven us around the bend. in fact, outlawing the consumption of beef has been one of the stratagems of certain extremist racist groups.

  4. Here we are not trying to convey that racists have particular stratagems to eat meat or not, we are just trying to convey the message that Racism is Butchery. We have just explained eating meat in detail to describe the fondness people have over meat from past, similar to discrimination.
