Heart of Darkness
We are just returning to the dark Pleistocene jungles we once lived in, thousands of years ago. Remains of Balangoda Man, a prehistoric hominid, found in the Batadombalena cave, close to Kuruwita, in Sri Lanka, suggest that humans colonised the rain forest as early as 45,000 years ago, tens of thousands of years before it was originally estimated. This was shot on location as part of my article The Cave in the Jungle: Visiting Batadombalena, the Home of Balangoda Man, in the March 2016 issue of Serendib, Sri Lankan Airlines’ inflight magazine. Follow the link to read about how the discovery of Balangoda Man and his tools changed opinion on prehistoric man.
