Down in the Mine #2

Down in the Mine #3 by Son of the Morning Light on

A moonstone miner waits for a bucket to be lowered the 20m to him to collect pegmatite rubble which contains the rare blue moonstone. Meetiyagoda, in southwestern Sri Lanka, is the world’s largest source of blue moonstones, and some of these mineshafts will eventually go as deep as 65m where they hit bedrock. Shot on assignment for Explore Sri Lanka, as part of my story, Moonstones of Meetiyagoda, which runs in the February 2017 issue now on sale.
