The Hill Club, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka
Built in 1867, the mock-Tudor building became home to the Hill Club in 1876. A gentleman’s club for coffee and tea planters, it deigned to allow women entry only in 1967, a full century after its construction; but the Hill Club still maintains a Gentlemen Only Bar, although it has conceded a Mixed Bar as well. Shot on assignment for Serendib, the inflight magazine of SriLankan Airlines. My story, The Nuwara Eliya Season in Spring, ran in the April 2017 issue.
