Dumbara Weaver, Thalagune, Sri Lanka #13
Sarath Wickramasinghe transfers raw cotton onto bobbins with a traditional hand-turned spinning wheel. Sarath is one of the last of the famous Dumbara weavers of Sri Lanka, who once created clothes and art for the Kandyan kings. Shot on assignment for Serendib, the inflight magazine of SriLankan Airlines. My story, The Last Royal Weavers, runs in the July 2017 issue.
