Detail of the Batatotalena Cave Temple, Sri Lanka by Son of the Morning Light on 500px.com

Thought to be the rumoured sixteenth Solosmasthana, one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Sri Lanka, directly connected to the Buddha, the Batatotalena is thought to be the cave in which, according to legend, the Buddha rested after his visit to the summit of Sumanakuta (Adam’s peak) in the 6th century BC. The cave temple has been renovated several times and, one such renovation in 1908, resulted in the incorporation of the British Royal Coat of Arms into the cave’s many paintings. Shot on assignment for Serendib magazine. My photo story, Mysteries in the Jungle, ran in the February 2016 issue.
