The Throne of King Wimaladharmasuriya II of Kandy, created in 1693, as used by King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, the last Lankan monarch. When Kandy fell to the British in 1815, and the king was exiled, the throne and other royal regalia were removed to Britain, and remained there for over a century until 1936, when they were returned to Ceylon. Cinnamon is peeled in Sri Lanka, as it has been done for centuries, by hand. The peeled bark is used in the food industry, and cinnamon oil is extracted from the leaves. Sri Lanka produces 8% of the world’s cinnamon. Shot in September 2017, on assignment for Verge International, a producer of essential oils.

The southeast wing of the building, in which this hall is located, isn’t part of the original construction which was completed in 1876, but was added in the early 20th century.
