The Veheragala Artefacts

Bodhisatva Sandals by Son of the Morning Light on 500px.com

Detail of a gilt bronze 9th century Bodhisatva sandal from Veheragala, in the Polonnaruwa Kingdom. Hollow-cast, they likely were fitted to a 3-metre Bodhisatva statue. The toe rings were probably set with precious stones, now lost. Shot on assignment for Serendib magazine. My photo story on the National Museum in Colombo, Katu Ge, ran in the October 2017 issue.
