Schoolgirls in a passing bus watch pro-democracy demonstrations outside Temple Trees, the official Colombo residence of Sri Lanka’s sacked prime minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe. On 26th October, President Maithripala Sirisena disbanded the cabinet and sacked Wickremesinghe, before appointing former president Mahinda Rajapakse to the PM post. He then prorogued Parliament for three weeks, and proceeded to pick a new cabinet, plunging the country into a constitutional crisis that remains unresolved almost two weeks later.
