Highland Fresh in the City

Dematagoda, Colombo. August 2023. An S13 Class heading into the Running Shed for overnight servicing, passes a tired father and son who have been selling avocados by the roadside, all day. Avocados are grown in Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands, and arrive in Colombo everyday, on trains like this one, or in trucks like this one, carrying the hopes of families like this one.
