Murukku #2

Swords into Plowshares and Bunkers into Petti Kadés*

A former Sri Lanka Navy bunker — part of the static defenses against the Tamil Tiger guerrillas during the civil war — has since been converted by this enterprising businessman into a little kiosk selling snacks and warm soft drinks to worshippers and tourists visiting the Naagapoosani Amman Kovil on Nainativu Island, off the coast of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.

*A “petti kadé is a small wayside lean-to shack serving as a shop.
