Why so Complicated?

The Pidurangala Buddha, Sri Lanka #3 by Son of the Morning Light on 500px.com
A sign close to the Pidurangala Buddha warns visitors not to pose with their backs to the statue. This dog didn’t seem to care about signboards. Or Buddhas. Or even the steepness of the climb; following us all the way to the top of the 200m mountain. The Pidurangala Buddha is dated to the 9th century, and at 22.5m, one of the largest brick Buddha statues in the world. Shot for my story on “Sigiriya and Pidurangala”, which ran in the April 2018 issue of Serendib magazine.

Racing Down the Home Stretch

Racing Down the Straight #2 by Son of the Morning Light on 500px.com
A pair of thoroughbreds at maximum attack during morning training at the Nuwara Eliya Race Course. Although horse racing had begun in Nuwara Eliya in the mid-19th century, when John Baker, brother of the famous Samuel Baker, imported his English thoroughbreds, the Nuwara Eliya Turf Club was built only in 1900. Several race days will be held this April. Shot on assignment for Serendib, the inflight magazine of Sri Lankan Airlines. My story, The Nuwara Eliya Season in Spring‘, runs in the April 2017 issue.
